After three years of being unemployed, Debbie England joined the Work Programme in September 2012. Following the opportunity to work as a self-employed taxi driver for a time – a job which she really enjoyed – Debbie was in no doubt that this was what she wanted to do. Now, Debbie admits that even she could not have envisaged how one meeting with Janet, her Trac adviser, could have resulted in the success that she enjoys today.
“When she came to us, Debbie already had her car and taxi licence and just needed some funding for the hackney plate in order to take up a job as a self-employed driver with a local taxi firm” said Janet.
With the £124.10 given to her by Trac, Debbie was then able to start work with Station Cars in October 2012. One month after her initial meeting with Janet.
Through her own hard work and determination she is now running a successful company called “My Taxi” based in Caersws. In her own words, the position that she finds herself in at the beginning of 2014 is “totally amazing”. She now not only has a job herself but is an employer in her own right, employing a switchboard operator, and 4 drivers who have just recently gained their licences.
Said Debbie “This is all down to Janet’s foresight in finding the answer to the problem which was preventing me from getting the break that I needed”.
Thanks to Trac, Debbie is now well and truly in the driving seat.
